The Idea of BIG and Measurement

100

n this resource we will explore attributes about measurement. Children from a very young age begin to dabble with the ideas and explorations of big and small or, biggest and smallest while they engage in play activities. However, it is an interesting realization that deciding which toy is biggest or smallest depends on which attribute you are considering (height, width, capacity, or weight). In this resource teachers and educators will be asked to do a hands-on activity that will deepen their understanding of the idea of BIG. This resource was inspired by classroom work described in the Early Math Collaborative’s Big Ideas of Early Mathematics (2014).
